Spin Bowling Masterclass with former England leg-spinner - Ian Salisbury. Ian Salisbury was a leg-spinning allrounder who played first class cricket for Sussex, Surrey and Warwickshire in a career spanning from 1989 to 2008. During this time, he also played 14 test matches and 4 ODI’s for England. Across all formats he took 1195 wickets and was an integral part of the Surrey team that dominated county cricket in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Salisbury was one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1992. Upon retirement he moved into coaching with stints as 2nd XI and then 1st XI coach at Surrey CCC. Salisbury is now the Head Coach for the England Physical Disability Cricket team.

Phil is a former Assistant Coach at Northants Cricket, having held numerous coaching roles there over many years including Head Bowling Coach. Retiring at the end of the 2019 promotion winning season, Phil’s tenure coincided with the most successful period in the club’s history, including reaching 3 T20 finals in 4 years and winning the trophy twice.

Since retiring from the club, Phil has been involved in elite Coach Mentoring for the ECB and can be heard regularly on commentary on radio and the club’s own livestream output.

Wicket Keeping Masterclass with David Ripley (Level IV coach, former Northants Player and Head Coach).

Learn how to wicket keep like a pro with top tips and insights. The session will go into depth regard the technical and tactical aspects of standing up to pace and spin as well as stood back to seam bowling, making use of bowling machines, a Meryln machine as well as deflection aids.

Numbers are limited to 16 players due to the specialist nature of this course. This course is aimed at experienced wicket keepers rather than beginners.

Julien Wood has accepted an offer to coach in the Sri Lankan T10 Franchise tournament, which unfortunately overlaps with our masterclasses on the 16th December.

However, we have managed to secure two highly experienced players and coaches to lead the courses instead. These are David Ripley (former Northants player and Head Coach) and Josh Cobb (current professional cricketer).

David is well known to you and has led much of our batting coaching over the years. David is a level IV coach and has worked with some of the best players Northants have produced like Ben Duckett and has also had coaching experience in the Hundred, as well as winning two Northants Blast titles as coach.

Josh Cobb Josh has built his reputation primarily as a dangerous T20 batsman winning two T20 Blast titles and vast experience in franchise cricket (including the Hundred and the Bangladesh Premier League). Most recently Josh has been playing in the Abhu Dabhi T10 and the USPL in Florida.

With the vast shorter form experience these two have the theme will still be very much about the techniques, methodology and mindset of power hitting and the shorter forms of the game - against spin and pace, but we will spend time discussing and practicing other formats as well. There will also be an opportunity for some Q&A with both Josh and David.
